Tamil Vowels Lessons Added

I have added some simple Tamil Lessons to my Tamil website: tamil.somasundaram.us/tamil_lessons.html

The lessons cover Tamil Vowels and they are meant to be simple tools for parents of Tamil loving people whose children are born in places where Tamil is not routinely taught. The lessons are both in English and Tamil.

The parents or those interested in learning Tamil language can use them to teach others or learn Tamil.

In the first Tamil lesson we will learn the vowels. I will introduce all thirteen (13) of them in this and next pages with columns for the Tamil vowel letter, its English pronunciation, Tamil word, the same word transliterated in English, word equivalent in English, and a picture of the word. My intention is to make it easier for parents of Tamil loving people to give a resource to teach Tamil to their children. If you find this useful, please contact me at: mail {@} somasundaram.us. I am posting this on my Tamil websites (tamil. somasundaram.us and tlh-tamilsangam.somasundaram.us). I will continue to add more lessons when I have time. Please let me know its usefulness and give your suggestions. Please feel free to use it, but contact and let me know that you are using it. I want to know whether my efforts have an impact. Thanks.

White Oak (Rat) Snake or not?

White Oak (Rat) Snake or not?

Tallahassee, FL 32317

When I drove back home from my evening errand around 7:30 PM and try to park my car in the driveway, I noticed a long (3 1/2 feet, ~1 meter long) thin light brown (wheat colored) snake crawling across the front of my garage door. It was moving  slowly at times even stopped completely. There was enough light as my house faces North and the Sun from the Western sky was falling right on my drive way.

Rat Snake or Oak Snake?

I quickly went inside the house and grabbed two sticks and my camera and took some pictures and recorded a short video. I wanted to find out whether it was poisonous snake but no local snake experts were around. So I tried to grab it using the long stick. The snake quickly turned around and put out its tongue and didn’t strike or open its mouth. I then chased it around the house.

When I consulted my friends later, they said by looking at the photos the snake is likely to be Florida white oak snake. See for yourselves and let me know that assessment is correct. The snake is also referred to White Oak Snake, or Southern Rat Snake native to Northern Florida (where we live) and Southern Georgia.

Add 1TB IHD to computer

One terabyte internal hard disk addition

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

Tallahassee, FL 32317

I went ahead upgraded my two year old Dell Inspiron desktop with additional storage space. I looked for the appropriate hardware and found Seagate Barracuda PC Desktop Hard drive (SATA interface; 32 MB cache; 7200 RPM; 1 TB raw capacity; 3.5 inch form factor) was the ideal choice.

The model number for Seagate 1 TB internal hard disk was ST310005NA1AS-RK. The part number was 9BX1A8-573 and was “Made in China” with Date of Manufacture code of 08/11 (Aug 2011?)

The kit came with screws (4) and I had empty HDD space (1) and so installed and restarted the computer. Since it was raw disk, I had to quick format it in NTFS filesystem and soon I was able to the see the additional disk.
